2)Psalm 110 is a Messianic Psalm.David is the author.He wrote it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.It is pointed out that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
3)In Ps.110:1,David says,”The Lord(God)said unto my Lord(Messiah).” Jesus Christ has quoted this verse in Matt.22:41-46;Mark 12:35-37 &luke 20:41-44.
Many O.T.Passages say that Jesus will come in the line of king David.Read 2 Sam.7:7-12,Is.9:7.The genealogy of Jesus Christ shows that he has come in the line of David.Matt.1:1;Luke 1:32.Jesus said,”For David himself said by the Holy Ghost,The Lord said to my Lord……David therefore calleth himself Lord;and whence is he the his Son?”Mark 12:37.Jesus is the Son of David.Moreover,he is the lord of David as he is the Son of God.
4)Jesus alluded Ps.110;1 in Matt.26:64;Mark 14:62& Luke 22:69.Read Mark 26:63,64.The high priest asked Jesus,”Tell us whether thou be Christ,the Son of God?” Jesus answered,”thou hast said:nevertheless I say unto you,hereafter shall ye see the Son of Man,sitting on the right hand of power,and coming in the cloud of heaven.”Jesus speaks of His resurrection, ascension & His exalted position after His crucifixion.
5)Ps.110:1 is one of the important quotations that is used by N.T.writers.
Read Acts 2:34;7:55,56;Rom.8:34;Eph.1:20-22;1 Pet.3:22.Jesus Christ is made both Lord & Christ.He is making intercession for us sitting on the right hand of God.The writer of Hebrews uses this quotation in 1:3,13,14;8:1;
10:12,13 &12:2 to stress
i)The superiority of Jesus Christ as Son of God over the angels.1:13,14.
ii)The completion of the atonement work of Jesus Christ for sins as high priest by offering the perfect sacrifice of Himself.
iii)The exalted position of Jesus Christ with majesty,power,authority & honor in heaven as the Son of God.
