The historical background for Psalms is found in I Sam chapters 21 & 22.Saul hated David very much & tried to kill him.David went to the city of Nob where the priest Ahimelech gave him the holy bread & Goliath’s sword.Doeg who came in the line of Esau and who was Saul’s chief herdsman was there at that time and he gave information of David’s meeting of Ahimelech and about the help offered by the priest to David. This kindled to the anger of King Saul and led to the killing of 85 priests and their families and their cattle in Nob. David felt sorry for the incident and wrote Psalm 52.David people who trusts their riches and wicked ways for their security will not last long.Their houses will be uprooted. Some people get along with slander and lying and work against God’s people & want to be successful in their lives but God will judge them and the righteous people will see the downfall of the wicked people.David says in verse 8 that he is like a green olive tree in the house of God and he trusts in the mercy of God for ever and ever.David trusts in the living God for his provision, protection & security. He trusts in God’s mercy, grace and loving kindness.God’s mercy endures for ever. The wicked people think that they are heroes and are self-sufficient.They devise evil ways and are cruel. They do not trust in God.They believe their own strength. But without the help of God we cannot do anything. If we want our life to be stable and fruitful we must have living relationship with Lord Jesus Christ. We must get nourishment from the Word of God.We must be filled with the Spirit of God and be witnesses for His glory.Even in the previous Psalm,David trusts His mercy for the forgiveness of the serious sins he had committed.Let us trust God for everything.
