The background of Psalm 54 is in I Sam 23:14-29.The Ziphites came to Saul& told him that David was hiding himself in their place.Saul & his men went with the Ziphites to find David with the intention of killing him.Saul& his men were on one side of the mountain while David & his men were on the other side.David made haste to escape from Saul.David had fear for Saul&prayed to God for deliverance. He was in in tight corner.Soon Saul&his men would come& catch them.David depended on the power of God & believed that God would help him to escape.God answered his believing prayer.Soon a messenger came to tell Saul that Philistines have invaded the land and Saul gave up pursuing after David and went against the Philistines to save his country. At the close of the Psalm praises God because He has answered his prayer& delivered him from all troubles.
