“Man is…grander than death, too grand for it-that is the freedom of his head. Grander than life, too grand for it-that is the piety in his heart.”
-Thomas Mann (1875-1955), German writer.
There is a saying in my country “Higit sa Lahat ay Tao” or Most of all Man is more important than anything!
Man is so important in God’s eyes. Man is more important than the Laws, or the systems, or death or life-God made man His priority. That is why God said we should understand well His Word “I will have mercy and not sacrifice!” The Law was made for the benefits of man-for his good!
Man made in the image of God- though lower than the angels now, but someday will rule over these angels. God have given man the privilege and the power to become His sons and daughters!
Man the writer of Psalm is asking God about himself “What is man that thou art mindful of him?”

1)Psalm 8 as founded on the account of creation of Genesis 1.Special attention was given to Gen.1:26-28.While admiring the majesty of God in the mighty acts of His creation, the Psalmist focuses the attention to the lofty position given to man by God.
2)The writer of Hebrews cited the quotation of Psalm 8:4-6 in Hebrews 2:6,7 & gave his commentary in Heb.2:8,9 to show that Jesus Christ,as Son of Man,is greater than angels.
3)Man was formed out of the dust of the ground. He is weak & frail before the sovereignty of God.
4)On our considering the mighty creative acts of God,man seems to be insignificant & unworthy before God.
5)God is mindful of man:God is interested in the affairs of men.God’s care for man is manifested in His providence.
Ps.40:17″But I am poor & needy;yet the Lord thinketh upon me.”Read Gen.8:1
Ex.2:24;1 Sam.1:19;Ps.105:42;136:23;138:6;Luke 1:48.
6)God visits men:”Blessed be the lord God of Israel;for he hath visited & redeemed his people.”Luke 1:68.Read also Luke 1:78,79.God has visited to redeem us.
“..for his going forth is prepared as the morning & he shall come unto us as the rain,as the latter & former rain unto the earth.”Hos.6:7.God visits us to give us joy & encouragement. He visits us to refresh us.He visits us to bless us.
7)God is great. He is omnipotent. He is merciful also.”For as the heaven is high above the earth,so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.”Ps.
103:11.He who calls the stars by names by the greatness of his might knows each one of us personally.Read Is.40:26;Ps.147:4.

Rosalie Sherrell (Post #3): David wonders with awe. What is man that God would think of him? And, the son of man, that God would pay attention to and look after him with care and special interest?
