16 Bible Commentaries on Romans 10: 9
Post #12, James: “Religion” is not from God. That is a word man came up with. And all that murder, war, bloodshed, including sickness, disease, and anything of those natures - God didn’t cause that. Those things are in the world because sin is in the world. And why is sin in the world?… Because of man [Rom.5:12].
God does not show favoritism [Rom.2:11]. If He chose Israel, out of all the other nations, as His “treasured possession” [Deut.7:6], what is that to you and I?

T. Snow (Post #13): “If there is an unpardonable sin, Christ did not die for all sin. If He did not die for all sin, there are those to whom salvation is not available. If salvation is not available to all men, John 3:16 and a multitude of other New Testament verses are not true.” - C. Stanley
I have heard Dr. Charles Stanley preach on numerous occasions. He strikes me as a conservative preacher. I feel most certain that Dr. Charles Stanley is aware there is an unpardonable sin–the sin of unbelief in Jesus Christ as Savior. So, perhaps his entire message explains the anomaly.

Regarding Rom.10:9-10 > that phrase, “Once saved always saved.” I have typed some of the following under another forum, but would like to bring it up again. This is what happened for me personally. I add emphasis because that’s how I read and understand Scripture. Maybe this will help someone else.
I’ve been a Christian for…a number of years. I grew up hearing “once-saved-always-saved” [”Eternal Security” preferred], and thought I believed it. But I couldn’t tell you, to save my life, where to find it in Scripture, or just HOW the Bible explained it.
Then one day, not too many years ago, I was reading in Romans 5 where Paul writes:
“Consequently, just as the result of ONE TRESPASS [Adam’s sin] was condemnation for ALL men, so also the result of ONE ACT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS [the Cross] was justification that brings life for ALL men” [v.18].
Now look at v.16:
“Again, the gift of God [eternal life thru Christ] is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment followed ONE SIN and brought condemnation, but the gift followed MANY TRESPASSES [sins of the world] and brought justification.”
And so I thought about this. Condemnation to all of us followed Adam’s ONE sin, but the gift followed MANY trespasses [sins of the world] and brought justification.”
I thought some more. So, Adam’s disobedience was the “sin” that condemned the human race, right down to me [Rom.5:12]. I am not a sinner because I commit sins…..I commit sins because I AM a sinner.
And here’s the thing: on the Cross, Jesus paid the penalty of ADAM’S SIN. You see? “Sin” entered the world bringing the death penalty. Jesus paid THAT penalty on the Cross [Heb.9:12; 10:11-12; cf. Col.2:13-15].
This is why no one can boast [Eph.2:8-9], because we are rescued from the penalty of sin, wholly and completely by God’s grace through the blood of Jesus.
The Cross was over 2,000+ years ago. It makes no difference which sins you and I committed in the past, or those we will commit in the future. They have all been atoned.
“If there is an unpardonable sin, Christ did not die for all sin. If He did not die for all sin, there are those to whom salvation is not available. If salvation is not available to all men, John 3:16 and a multitude of other New Testament verses are not true.” - C. Stanley

Scott Dale: A appreciate you and how you try to help myself and others. Do I have a mixed up faith. I don’t think so. It is wrong to feel that doing good deeds (to help humanity) are waisting their time? Don’t think so. After all, isn’t that what you are doing? Why waste your time helping others? According to this verse, God does not demand it.
There is more to Romans than this one verse. The new testament is such a refreshing change to the old testament. That is why there are billions of followers of Jesus as compared to millions that follow YHWH of the old testament.
“Good behaviors are “good” but they don’t save.” Is your quote. Religions should bless peoples lives. Notice that I said religions. Any religion that demands murder (old testament), killing of babies (Psalms 137:9), slavery and the promotion of a superior race (Jews are God’s favorite) is wrong. It is a death cult. Nazis = Jews ; what is the difference? The same goes out to the Moselm faith as well. The Hindus and their ‘caste’ system. How terrible it must be for the ‘untouchables’.
I have no desire to be apart of those systems.

James,
Your post #10 betrays your understanding of biblical faith and what Paul is talking about. You have suggested rightly that true Christianity should result in good behaviors and the “fruit of the Spirit”. But without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it’s all rather pointless. Good behaviors are “good” but they don’t save. Hundreds of religions espouse “good behavior” but if one’s own soul is not already assured of eternal life, then why go to church if all that’s desired is to get rid of bad behaviors and adopt good behaviors? People can already do these things by joining any religion they please or no religion at all. But are they truly saved?
Paul’s words in this verse are incredibly powerful and separate Christianity from all other religions. It is the very fact of confessing Jesus Christ that sends all the world into disarray. Why is that?
To all those who have a persoanl relationship with the living Son of God; Paul’s words are not hard to understand at all.

I can’t understand how just having a belief constitutes a religon. A religion is about attitude, morals, real charity (caring for others) and the rest of the fruits of the spirit in Gal 5:22.
Sadly, these do not exist in the churches I have attended over the years. It is either a social club (Methodist) or it is about control (church of Christ).
Religion should be a blessing to one’s life, not a curse. The ‘once saved, always saved’ crowd may have scriptures on their side, but they don’t have the truth. Romans constitues much more than this verse.

Scott Dale & James R. I THINK THIS IS WHAT JAMES MIGHT BE DRIVING AT:
i COPIED THIS FROM:http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=193077384055351
Indeed, our generation is a prime target for the greatest deception the world has ever seen, and the Laodicea church will be the victim of that great deception.
In the book of Revelation the Bible describes the condition of the Church right before the return of our Lord as lukewarm, which is neithwer neither cold nor hot. We learn that the Laodicea church is so distasteful to God that He spews it out of His mouth (Revelation3:14-22). How did the Laodicea become Lukewarm? Through Deception. Deceptions have already begun to sweep over local churches everywhere as leaders exchange the uncompromising, on-fire Gospel of Jesus Christ for watered-down, user friendly messages. Are you a member of a Laodicea church? It is important to understand the pattern of this type of Church because it is one in which Jezebel flows freely to deceive the sheep.
A GOSPEL THAT COST NOTHING?
What is the greatest deception in a Laodicea church? Probably presenting a bless-me-only Gospel that requires no change. How many people come into our churches and get “slain in the spirit” at alter calls, only to come up off the carpet unchanged? Why is that happening? Perhaps because there is no true repentance in the people’s hearts. John the Baptist preached a Gospel that called for “fruits of repentance” (Luke 14:27, 33). You get “saved” and never give up a thing. Just say a 30-second prayer, hand a membership card to your “seeker friendly” Pastor, and you’re in After all, as they say “once saved always saved.”
FALSE SIGNS AND WONDERS
The Laodicea church has probably already produced more unstable and flaky Christians than any other time period in Christendom. That’s at least partially because of the false signs and wonders that have deceived immature saints who are lukewarm and non-discerning. Every true move of God will produce mature, stable, relatable Christians, not spiritual fruits, flakes and nuts. The only way to bring about spiritual stability is through submission to God’s Word and His Leadership. We must submit ourselves to God’s leaders. What spirit is it that would dislike true godly authority? Jezebel, of course. When the spirit of Jezebel enters into a local church that is full of deception, the fruit is usually persistent resistance to spiritual authority.
! Thessalonians 5:21 One of the greasiest dangers of the Laodicea movement will be false manifestations that produce only a soulish wonderment.
FULL OF JEZEBELS DECEPTIONS
The spirit of Jezebel will be one of the greatest enemies of the church in these last days, and she will use the Laodicea prophets, bearing smooth sayings through personal prophecy that includes hints of control and manipulation to further release a great deception into the land.
Remember that Jezebel had 450 prophets eating from her table. If the prophetic Movement degenerates into nothing more than personal prophecies’, this will play into, promote and strengthen the deception of Jezebel’s divination’s, further leading the Laodicea church into false sense of security when all is certainly not well. Like sheep being led to the slaughter, this deception will be the fruit of seduction (Ezekiel 13:10).
It is said before Dr. Lester Sumrall went home to be with the Lord he commented that in the last days Jezebel would be the Church’s greatest enemy. It is clear that Jezebel will use her prophets with their smooth sayings and fortunetelling to further deceive the Laodicea church.
JEZEBEL’S PREDICABLE PATTERN
Jezebel is sly but somewhat predictable. Are you discerning a Jezebel influence in your church? Here are six earmarks that will alert you to Jezebel are working in your midst.
1. JEZEBEL TARGETS LEADERSHIP.
Listen leader Jezebel wants to get close to you-and fast. She looks to immediately infiltrate church leadership Many times when God gives me a prophetic word that really punches the spiritual climate in our city it will stir these spirits to pay me a visit. They want to talk to me and only to me. That throws up a red flag. With our ministry team.
2. JEZEBEL SEEKS POSITION IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
There is nothing wrong with an eagerness to serve, but the spirit of Jezebel is looking for positions of authority, not position of service. Much like the religious spirit, she wants to be in positions where she can be seen by men. She can’t stand being in the shadows of others. She likes attention and places of control and will often begin inquiring about leadership opportunities as soon as she enters the church.
3. JEZEBEL CREATES SOUL TIES.
Jezebel looks for hurt, wounded and discontent people.
Why? Because she is master at developing soul ties through the working of witchcraft.
4. JEZEBEL FLOWS IN PERSONAL PROPHECY.
Jezebel has prophetic words of personal prophecy for many.
Example: she might deliver a word that sounds something like, “The Spirit of God shows me that you are called to carry the Gospel into the nations of the earth. And I just sense that that the people at this church really don’t understand your unique calling like I do.”
Jezebel’s prophetic motives are to separate you from those who can speak truth into your life. Remember, Jezebel seeks to draw people unto herself and she uses prophecy and flattery to fill the chairs at her dinning room table. Flattery is a door into your heart. Beware of it and keep that door tightly shut up.
5. JEZEBEL STARTS PRIVATE MINISTRY.
When Jezebel delivers her false prophetic words she usually pulls people off to the side and away from others. It’s called “private ministry” and it is a common practice of Jezebel. It doesn’t take her long to create a super spiritual atmosphere in witch to most effectively release her foul words. She is skillful at “hit and run” Prophetic delivery.
Jezebel also tends to prophesy words that breed fear and suspicion. She might say, “The spirit of God shows me that something is wrong here, but I just can’t get it all. Will you agree to pray with me till God shows me what wrong with the church? There is no need to receive prophecies that release fear.
Prophetic gifting should edify (build you up spiritually in the Lord). Exhort (encourage you in the Lord) and comfort, according to (1 Cor 14:3) this is not to say that the spirit of God does not speak of judgment; however, such serious prophetic words are usually reserved for those who refuse to repent and turn from their wicked ways.
6. JEZEBEL SEEKS INFORMATION.
Jezebel is an information seeker. The Jezebel spirit thrives on information about what’s happening around the church and in others lives. Don’t give her any! Knowledge of things that are none of her business only empowers this wicked spirit manipulates and control in a more subversive manner.
We need to know our sheep, as well as those who labor among us (Proverbs 27:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:12).
Questions to ask you’re self to determine if you are in a Laodicea church:
Does the preaching tip around hard issues that would bring conviction to the hearers?
Have you noticed a lot of rebellious attitudes and gossiping about leadership?
Do you sense a red light in your spirit when you witness supposed outpourings of the spirit of personal prophecies?
Does the spiritual climate in your church seem dull, dead and devoid of the spirit of God? Is it filled with tradition with little change? Is it lukewarm?

James,
Judging from your post #7, you have a terribly convoluted understanding of biblical faith. My guess as to the reason why is because you have not sought to understand it with your whole heart. Could it be that you have divided motives and are unable to believe?
You make it sound like possessing biblical faith is child’s play; but on the contrary, simply believing God is the hardest thing anyone can ever do because ego and pride must die first and very few people are willing to pay that price; hence, very few people come to truly understand biblical faith.
To “confess the Lord Jesus” does not merely mean mumbling the words with your lips; it means confessing to the world that Jesus Christ is Lord of all and that he is YOUR Lord too. Like I said, ego must die.
And just how easy do you think it is to really believe that Jesus has risen from the dead and is alive today and coming again without completely humbling oneself and forsaking all pride?
Each person must honestly ask the question; “Do I REALLY want to understand this or am I just playing a game in my mind?”

Say the magic words with me!
“The Lord Jesus”
And now, if you believe that he was raised from the dead, you are saved.
That is all, is that really all what this ‘Christianity’ is all about?
How about good deeds?
DEEDS VS. WORKS PROBLEM
Is this the solution for the problem of sin? This is intriguing. Although Christians believe that the individual soul did not exist before its conception in the womb, they still maintain that all men are born into sin. They are tainted with the “original sin”.
Although Jesus exhorts people to “be ye perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect”, they say that man is inherently a sinful creature, and that Christ’s death on the cross paid for all of our sins.
All we have to do is acknowledge that sacrifice. Furthermore, some Christians believe that there is no need to stop sinning, as long as you have faith in Christ’s sacrifice.
This is a flawed doctrine. Interestingly, it is completely biblical! So just say the magic words “the Lord Jesus” and all will be well with your soul.

Scot Dale:You asked in your post#5:” So, without contradicting Paul, please explain how we can LOSE our justification by NOT keeping the Law? If our salvation does not rest on our keeping the law, please tell me how our justification is disturbed in any way when we break the law??”
Paul said:For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Romans 2:13.
James said: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”James 1:22.
Our Savior warned against ignoring God’s Laws: ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’Matthew 7:23.
Lawlessness defined:Contrary to the law… unlawful… Not governed by law:
Everyday we transgress the Law of God…and God gave and provided us grace for that…but their is another way of transgressing the Law of God…this is a level of transgressing God’s Laws with impunity…when one totally disregard restraint and with wild abandon do what one wills rather than the Will of God the Father!

Tiuche,
Yes, rightly dividing the word of truth is an imperative I wholeheartedly embrace. So let’s see if we can divide it rightly:
Verse 28 is crystal clear regarding justification; “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.”
So, without contradicting Paul, please explain how we can LOSE our justification by NOT keeping the Law? If our salvation does not rest on our keeping the law, please tell me how our justification is disturbed in any way when we break the law??

Roland G. Post#2& Scott Dale(post #3)-
For Post#2- Matthew 7:21 is talking of people who have been or are calling Christ now as their Lord…but who do not love Him by obeying His commandments…they will be surprise someday when they be classified as goats & told Jesus never knew them!
For post#3 By balance, I mean that we put our weight more in GRACE not on works lest anyone should boast; but that we do not forget the will of the Father which is that we should believe in Jesus Christ and His Laws written in our Hearts & Minds as the fulfillment of the New Covenant on our part . His Law being sealed among us His disciples…thus we established the Law of God in our hearts & minds (Romans 3:31).
Balance is dividing the Word of God aright which I believe you agree 100%.

Tiuche,
When it comes to our common salvation just what do you mean by “balance”?
Is the Good News of saving grace received by faith alone or by faith AND works?
Or is the assurance of salvation just a constant balancing “act”??

Monsieur Tiuche (Post #1): Do you know why Jesus says what He says in Mathew 7:21? Jesus is saying many unbelievers will recognize Him as LORD when they see Him at the Last Judgement. It will be too late then. A person must recognize Jesus as LORD before physical death.

THIS VERSE IS OFTEN USED AS THE SUPPORT FOR THE ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED DOCTRINE…
But this verse must be balanced with Matthew 7:21 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven”.
