8 Bible Commentaries on Romans 8: 28

As believers in Christ,we may face tribulation or distress or persecution.
(Rom.8:35).We may be troubled on every side;we may be perplexed;we may be persecuted;we may be cast down.(2 Cor.4:8,9)Paul says in 2 Tim.4:16″all men forsook me.” We may be misunderstood & our motives&words & actions may be misinterpreted.Paul must have gone through such feelings. But he says in verse 18,”And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom:to whom be glory for ever and ever.Amen” Paul says in Rom.8:37″Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”He concludes Romans 8 by saying,”(Nothing)shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”.Paul says in 2 Cor.4:17″For our light affliction which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”The ultimate purpose of God in our lives is to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ.(Rom.8:29)

This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. This verse has encouraged me a lot. Many times the evils which have come my way have turned into good.I have experienced the deep love of God & was able to draw more close to Him.The closer I cling to God,the greater are the trials & tribulations but this versa encourages me to go forward in the lord in faith. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me.Ps 138:8.I will cry unto God most high;unto God that performeth all things for me.Ps.57:2.Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Paul made it clear in the Book of Romans that we are justified by faith not by works. He illustrated it with the life of Abraham.Abraham believed God;and it was counted unto him for his righteousness.Rom4:3;Gen5;6;Gal.3:6;Jam2:23
This act took place before his circumcision. In Rom.4:6,7 Paul quoted Ps.32: 1,2 and stated that David described the blessedness of man unto whom God imputed righteousness without faith.Imputation is an act of God.When a person believes on the finished work of Jesus Christ for his salvation,God accounts him righteous in Christ. He is justified by faith.Read Rom3:22,23.
Notice Paul’s statement in Philip. 3:9 “And be found in him,not having mine righteousness, which is of the law,but that is through the faith of Christ,
the righteousness which is of God by faith.”Paul mentions two righteousness here.(i)Righteousness of law.(ii)Righteousness of God.Paul could say that he was blameless according to the law before his salvation.(Phil.3:6)He was legally righteous. But he was not righteous before God.(Rom.3:20)He has to accept Jesus Christ by faith to have the righteousness of God.

It can be noticed that Paul is dealing subjects like sin, justification &
sanctification, while one makes a journey to Rom 8:28 in the Book of Romans.
The love of God is demonstrated as Jesus Christ died for our sins while were yet sinners.(Rom 5:8;I John 4:9)
When we accept Jesus Christ believing Him,we become the sons of God.(I John 1:12)Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed you, that we should be called the sons of God.(I John 3:1)
We love God because He first loved us.(I John 4:19)We love Him because He has forgiven our sins.(Luke 7:47;I Pet 1:8,9)
Paul tells that nothing or nobody can separate us from the love of Christ.(Rom 8:38,39)
God’s choice is not based on our works. He called us because of His GRACE.He is not unrighteous. He is sovereign. He makes His own choices.God chose Jacob ahead of Esau even before they were born.(Rom 9:11-16)
The ultimate purpose of God is that we should be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.(Rom 8:29)God will fulfill what He has planned.

God loves all people.Jesus Christ died on the Cross for the sins of all the people.A born again Christian is supposed to love God & to give first place to God.According to Mark 12:33,the most important commandment is to love God.

I think this Bible verse tells us that it’s not only enough to be Christian, but that you have to LOVE God. God is not indiscriminate in his blessings, although he himself loves also them who not yet love Him.

Apostle Paul tells out about the hope of the Christian in the concluding verses of Romans chapter 8.Romans 8:28 speaks about God’s providential care & protection in the life of a Christian. He is called by God.He was chosen by God before the foundation of the world.A Christian is one who gives first place to God in his life.He loves God more than anybody or anything else.He wants to do the will of God in his life.He wants to please Him and to bring glory to His name.God has a plan in each individual child of God.What God has planned in his life will come to pass.Nobody or nothing, either good or bad will work together for the ultimate good of that person. The life of Joseph, Jacob’s son, is a very good example for this. His brothers hated him because of jealousy and mistreated him and sold him as a slave. He was falsely accused and misjudged and put into prison. The butler has forgotten to speak to the king for the release of Joseph. But at last God’s time has come.He was elevated to number two position in Egypt.God had a wonderful plan in the life of Joseph. He became a blessing not only to Egypt but also other countries. He had forgiven his brothers and took care of his father and his brothers in Egypt.Oh!what a wonderful story it is!It is a real story. Please note what Joseph has said in Gen.50:20,(after the death of Jacob): :”As far as I am concerned,God turned into good what you meant for evil, for he brought me to this high position I have today so that I could save the lives of many people.”(Living Bible).God knows the end from the beginning.A Christian may undergo setbacks presently and all seem to work against him.But he has a hope that everything works together for his good only.God is a sovereign God.No one can stop Him from doing what He has preplanned in the child of God.There is God’s providential care & protection in his life.
