That is, God does not have to save all the Jews and damn all the Gentiles, as Paul’s Jewish opponents thought, but rather God is able to determine the basis of extending his mercy as something other than ethnicity. In fact, Paul goes on to show that God has done so, and proceeds to show that God shows mercy to all that believe the gospel regardless of their ethnicity.
